1994 Quinta do Crasto LBV Port -- Unfiltered

Post by Andy Velebil »

Decanted about 4 hours. For an LBV the color is amazingly dark purple still and shows no signs of being 18 years old. Rich loganberries and black plums with a tickle of pepper in the background on the nose deceives its true age. The palate has gained body the longer this has been opened and is now showing dark chocolate, red raspberries, light tannins, and an elegant freshness. Again the palate doesn't show its true age as it shows much younger. On the finish, light eucalyptus and cracked pepper, along with those rich berries and chocolate that carry throughout the palate and into the finish, round out a fantastic example of an aged unfiltered LBV Port. I have no doubt this will continue to hold for many more years as it sheds it's primary flavors and develops some secondary characteristics.
