Medium ruby-garnet to cola at the rim. Pleasantly complex and just slightly tawny nose of chalky clay, anise, tart red berries, spice, and cigar ash. Similar palate. Extremely long, with considerable spirit building late. Remarkably youthful in some respects, fresh and clean, still showing a lick of tannin, yet somehow a little ordinary and unmemorable. I enjoyed drinking this now, though it certainly would have held several more years. Whitwham's bottling, neck fill, decanted 6 hours and could have used 12 hours. (91 pts.)
