For The Love Of Port

Never seen these in the USA before....(even Roy's TN on the VP references that). These are not on sale, but I thought the prices are very fair (Wine searcher has almost no entries for either)

1999 Casa de Santa Eufemia Vintage Port $39/bottle

I'm seeing the prices the other way - the 30-yr old white is $60 and the 2009 VP is $40. Still pretty good deals!

Thank you, I have reloaded on the 30 year old, which I have always loved. IIRC, the juice is actually from 1973 or was that just the very old white?

Within an hour of placing my order on their website, I got a phone call confirmation. I love when that happens!

It's now on backorder, so Roy must have gotten their last bottles. I went ahead and ordered 3 anyway as they make good cellar defenders for my 1952 Dalvas.

D'oh! Too late for that 30 year old white. That was a good price. Let us know if it comes back Glenn.

Correct the Special Reserve Branco was the single vintage from 1973. I don't know if they have since done away with that and turned it into a 30 year blend. But my guess, based on how popular aged whites have become, this is probably what they did. Would be interested to find out for sure though.

From the information I got back in the days, the Quinta blended everything to be one of the first to release aged white Tawnies up to 30yo. While the Casa continued to release that very old white and authentic from that 1973 vintage. Remember to put the year of the vintage for Colheita on the bottle, you need to send samples every 7 years to the IVDP. It might gotten harder for them to put on the market white reserve asking for higher price without putting any indication of the year or average age.

After family dispute the sole vineyard was splitted into 2 companies, Casa/Quinta de Santa Eufemia. I always prefered the Casa.

My backorder has been ordered, so apparently they were able to find 3 bottles for me. Yay!

Mine arrived today.

Except they aren't Casa de Santa Eufemia 30 Year Old White Port.

They are Casa de Santa Eufemia Special Reserve White Port. Yes, that Special Reserve. The 1973 Colheita that couldn't be labeled as such. These bottles don't have a bottling date on them, but my other remaining bottle was 2008 so I suspect these are similar or possibly newer (the bottles aren't as fancy).

Did some sort of new shipment come in to the country for these?

I have seen more entries in wine-searcher pop up even just within the past week. Wine Library seems to have them back in stock, and they are still the cheapest at $60 (from what I can see)

I personally have never had this, but based on the more-than-enthusiastic reactions here, I've ordered a few and am looking forward to it.

(Is it possible that they bottled something under the same 'name' as the unlabeled 1973 Colheita knowing that it was somewhat popular in certain circles? And yet, they don't have to advertise 1973 because the original never could anyway....)

Roy and Glenn, I would be interested in hearing your TN from these 'new' bottles vs your memory of the older ones... you know, because you don't have 1,000 other things to drink, taste and enjoy!

(PS I will note that some retailers HAVE advertised this as being from 1973 'Vintage')

The back label still says it was aged for more than 30 years in wood, so if it is a different wine than the 1973 Colheita it would still have to be at least 30 years old. Of course at this point that could now be from 1983 instead of 1973!

I'm considering opening one of my new bottles tomorrow night once Eric and Marijke get here. If they're up for some Port after a long flight we'll get some new TNs for the db!
