TN: 2003 Quinta do Portal – Vintage Port
It is very rare for me to drink vintage port under 21 years old, unless I taste cask samples or recently bottled finished Ports. This bottle does state on the back label: “Our vintage Port is best drunk after about ten years.” Decanted into a ships decanter for 3 hours, then drunk over a further two hours. Opaque purple. The nose is gives me liquid black plums, hints of pine and tar. The palate is surprisingly drinkable, luscious, balanced and full of pleasure. It is not overly sweet, medium bodied, rich but balanced by good acidity. Certainly there is no harm drinking a bottle now, especially if you happen to have some stilton and crackers.

Was this the Portal (blue capsule) or Portal+ (yellow capsule)?
I've found that most stores aren't even aware that there were two different Ports in 2003 and often sell one as the other as if they are interchangeable.

Interesting! I don't recall having ever seen a black capsule on a 2003 Portal before. Just the dark blue and bright yellow. I wonder if perhaps that was the standard Portal in the UK?nicos neocleous wrote:Black capsule.Glenn E. wrote:Was this the Portal (blue capsule) or Portal+ (yellow capsule)?
