1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

11 hr decant.
Extremely dark in colour - hard to beleive this is from 77. A melange of sweet spices, black pepper violets and blueberries on the nose. It has a big, viscous mouthfeel with concentrated flavours and a surprising amount of primary fruit for a port of this age. It's long, with an ever so slight heat but with solid tannins providing plenty of length.
A further 24 hrs on, it had mellowed a little which tightened up the balance, but the impressive elements of the first day were still present with no signs of deterioration. 93 on day one, but a notch higher on day 2. 94 points

This is really dark, as are most of the SW vintages. glad you decanted this a long time as it really needs it. A wonderful VP and glad it can still be found relatively cheap given the year.

One of my favorites. A) It is delicious. B) I'm just so amazed how young it looks every time I open one.
