2007 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port

Decanted 8 hours before. Squid ink with magenta rim--looks fresh and lush. Nose offers pepper, chocolate and that classic Crasto aroma--sort of a cooked rhubard. Taste is strong on cherry particulatrly black cherry, hints of leather and chocolate. Very viscous. Clipped tannic finish. Seemed wonderfully structured--how to not drink this when it tastes so good now.

Personally, I think these (Crasto VP) are better when young. So would probably be drinking them.

I dunno, I have had the 1987 VP on our summetime visit and loved it.

I had the unreleased 1985, which was stunning. However, I don't think their current ports are as strong as those older ports. For me they are nice, delicious, very well balanced ports that are mid-term agers. With those type of Ports I don't like to take chances by aging them a long time. If they are drinking well, then I oblige them! [cheers.gif]

Really like the 87 as well and lucky enough to own a few bottles.

But overall, (again so there is no misunderstanding.....OVERALL) their VPs tend to lack the stuffing for long haul storage and aging. They tend to focus more on making very good LBV's and Douro wines and not so much on making a rock star VP. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's just what they've chosen to pursue.

Of course their will always be outliers of great quality here and there. But were talking overall, across the board, and whatever other general all encompassing term one might come up with.
