On decanting: very dark red, nearly to the rim where there is a hint of purple. Notable glycerine. Relatively closed and monochromatic on the nose, persistent spicy fruit. Balanced on the palate showing a lovely thread of high quality fruit supported by good acidity and a tingling tannic finish. At 2 hours: unfolding on the nose, hints of incense perhaps, while the palate broadens and deepens and the grippiness on the finish becomes more intense. At 24 hours (stoppered decanter at 16C): really hitting its stride. Eucalyptus, vanilla and caramelised orange emerging on the nose - sustained complexity. A sinewy middleweight on the palate where the purity of the fruit really shines. Excellent balance and persistence. This wine has the weight and composure to suggest the possibility of some further development in the medium term, but delicious to drink now. 93 points.
