On decanting to 2 hours: tawny reddish colour with some darkness at the core. Quite pale at the rim. Gentle fruit on the nose with licorice hint. On the palate, all the primary fruit has gone. What remains is a relatively intense ethereal fruit flavour underpinned by very good acidity and a dark tannic finish. Glycerol richness and gently sweet. Classic aged VP and a fine wine. At 24 hours (stoppered decanter at 16C) : perhaps slightly more pungent on the nose and a touch darker on the palate, but the spirit is starting to show through. Not sure there is much up side to further ageing on this showing. So much more evolved than the 1980. Not as intense and wild as the 1977. 94-
