1997 Warre's VP

The cork was dry and it crumbled. Not what I was hoping for. Probably stored upright on the shelf for who knows how long.
I checked it about every hour or so beginning around the 4 hour mark. The nose had a pronounced floral note earlier on, and it permeated the room for a bit. That went away eventually. Starting around the 7 hour mark or so, it had the dreaded Robitussin taste happening. The Laffy Taffy note showed up somewhere in there, too. Plenty of heat persisted up until around the 9 hour mark. The grip is pretty good still, but it was pretty considerable earlier on. I expected something like that, as I had had a Warre's VP from either 1980 or 1983 (can't remember which, this was about five years ago) and I was really taken aback by how much grip it had. Nose is a bit muted right now, maybe a touch of strawberry soda. I taste licorice for sure, along with black pepper. 10 hours seemed to be the time it took for this one to come together. It's bottled up again, and I'll check back tomorrow for more impressions.
