Opened: 2 hours
This port smelled of warm fireplace rock, Christmas spice, and some raspberry preserve. The palate was rather underwhelming, with nicely mature tannins, but an assertive and large bodied alcohol and mildly pharmaceutical cherry/raspberry flavor. Short finish.
This wine showed better previously, and while the fill level was bottom neck, the cork was a mess and provoked the inexperienced waitress to near tears. This was probably a poor showing for what isn't one of the top wines of the vintage anyway. Perhaps would have come together with a longer decant, but wasn't showing signs of it at the end of the evening at around 4.5 hours.

Re: 1983 Fonseca VP
Your note is pretty spot on for this VP. Not the best vintage for this House.
