2007 Quarles Harris LBV Port

Post by John Danza »

  • 2007 Quarles Harris Porto LBV - Portugal, Douro, Porto (5/3/2014)
Popped and poured. I was originally going to say I didn't like the wine, but then I realized that the wine is just really boring. There's no heat from the alcohol at all. The fruit and palate is just really simple. The wine is ok for those folks who like port but are not port aficionados. At $14 a bottle, I don't mind keeping it around for that reason. Otherwise, I would move on. (82 pts.)

I would agree that typically the QH LBV's are lacking especially given their quality to price ratio. For around the same price there are plenty of options which are better for more serious Port drinkers.

Regardless, I am glad that Trader Joe's is carrying several different types of Port and even a couple Portuguese (one being a Douro) wines. At least at the stores near me.

Same with the store near me Andy.

The QH ports might be a good "starter port" for some folks, because they don't have a lot invested. The guys who drank it last night liked it.
