1977 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 1 hour - Deep red colour, looking to be in the early phases of being mature; 80% opaque. Very dense on the nose, difficult to penetrate but perhaps some sweet blackberry. Massive concentration on the palate; slow to develop, but builds to huge levels of fruit and power. The tannins are dry, a little green and very firm, the acidity is pronounced but the levels of fruit are just huge. All this is backed by a massive fruit powerhouse and bitter chocolate right at the core. The aftertaste is amazing, big and dominating, initially there is some substantial heat but this fades to leave a never-ending, big finish of licorice root and bitter, black chocolate offset by a wonderful bitter black cherry. Stunning port. 97 points
