1970 Taylor Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 10 hours - Deinhard bottled, sourced from an Oxford college cellar. Deep red in colour, 90% opaque. Rather closed on the nose with a swirl releasing heat, but the nose opened up and improved considerably with a couple of hours in the glass. Smooth textured, slow to develop on the palate but builds layers of flavour in a leisurely manner, bringing sweet fruit and spritely tannins. Very dense and powerful in the end, sweet with a bitter black chocolate at the core and always a lovely texture. A flash of the traditional Taylor heat on the aftertaste before the powerful, mouthfilling flavours on the long and compelling finish. Tremendous port, still so youthful. 94 points
