Multi: 1970 Quinta do Noval & unk year Quinta da Corte

Post by simon Lisle »

Firstly Quinta da Corte The first bottle I opened for friends when I had a heavy cold and I could taste nothing. The second bottle I opened I was that desperate for port after my cold I drank it before it was decanted long enough it was pretty closed at that point but not offensive
Quinta do Noval 1970 army navy bottling this had lost considerable colour and was not a great example.I have had this port many times but this one although not offensive in taste was not what I expected. My gem for this one is the Quinta do Noval 1967 which was better than I expected I had never had this port before the Cockburns yes about two cases but was never great this one I liked not rated by most but I do deep colour strong raisiny fading to a smoky finish well rounded.

Simon,

You might be interested to know that Christian Seely is a great fan of the 1967 Quinta do Noval and said that he feels it is a great wine that is often overlooked because of the reputation the year has.

What was the vintage of the Quinta da Corte?

Interesting. I've had consistently good experience with 1987 single quinta vintages. For a while, about 5 years back, the Quinta do Tua 1987 was my "house" port as I picked a couple of cases up at auction for a very reasonable price.

I must try and find myself a bottle of the Quinta da Corte. Thanks for the tip.

Just to be clear, Christian was saying that about the regular bottling of the 1967 Noval. This is not a wine that I have tried so - when I get the time - I will try to hunt out a bottle and see if I agree.
