Bottled in 1999

With âmbar color and orange edges this tawny has a strong personality. This is really sober style and attractive for those who like it, kinda "Men's Tawny". In the aroma shows almonds and prunes. Medium to Full Body and a long finish. Beautiful 10YO
17/20

João,

could you explain the concept of "Men's Tawny"?? I'm not familiar with that term, but if forced to guess, I would guess that it means a drier style rather than sweet?

Confusedly yours, :?

Not quite sure what he means either, but I would say Joao really liked it by his score. Allthough I can guess that he means its a brawny, muscular wine and not soft. Kinda like a big tannic hard hitting 2003 VP verses a 40+ year old VP that has mellowed out and is quite elegant.

When I find a bottle I will have to give it a go.

I haven't yet seen a single instance of Calem ports for sale in the Edmonton area - although an empty bottle sitting on the shelf of a wine store in downtown does tip me to the fact that it may have once been. :?

I checked wine searcher and it shows the SAQ carries it ( I think, i cannot read French though) here is the link

http://www.saq.com/pls/devsaq/generator ... d!00943811

OK for some reason the link is only partially highlighted..so copy the whole link and past it into your browser.

These words (Mens Tawny) came from the winemaker itself ,Pedro Sá, and really match perfectly my opinion of this style of tawny's. Well, this wine is not supposed to be light, fresh or soft. This wine is supposed to be strong, sober in the nose, distinct, exquisite ...well a men's drink. I think not everybody would like this one but just try it and the 20, 40YO and you'll see what i mean.
Concerning the note.....just an amateur note. I really became fan of this style so, yesterday just went to buy another 10YO but with the boottled year of 2005 to see if there was any difference in the style and it wasn't.

Best Regards,

Thanks Joao,

Checking around it is not widely available in the States, but when I get the opportunity to try it, I will not pass it by. Thanks again.
