Adriano Ramos Pinto Porto 20 Year Old Tawny Quinta do Bom Retiro (bottled 2007)

The nose is lovely. It is elegantly woody, deliciously nutty and has a delightful floral/rose petal note also. The palate is medium-bodied, in the middle of the sweetness-spectrum of Ports, with lively acidity. This is a very elegant style of Port and one that is very much to my taste. It shows the fruit of a younger Tawny and the elegance of the older one but without the overt woodiness that I often find in older Tawnies. I have never understood points, so will not give any, but I will say that I very much love this wine.

PS: For me the Ramos Pinto as well as the Duque de Bragança - Ferreira Tawny 20y are the 2 bests from big Company...after Vallado in 1st and the São Leonardo 20years in 2nd of course! :twisted:

I don't remember tasting either the Vallado or the São Leonardo. (The São Leonardo 40YO was very nice though!) But I do agree that the Duque de Bragança is great. Unfortunately the only two 20YO available here are this Ramos Pinto and Sandeman's - both are nice, however, so no problem. Do I remember correctly that S. Leonardo used to provide grapes for the Sandeman's Tawny?

Ahh yes, those S. Leonardo's are very tasty. I've tried the 20,30,and 40 and all were very good. But the 40 year old just blew me away and I normally prefer most 30 year old to 40 year olds....so that is saying a lot for their Ports.

FWIW, The 30 year old came from mostly one barrel from 1972.
