Last week I finished re-roofing my house. A rather large project but after several bruises, cuts, scrapes, burns, a trip to the doctor and a tetanus shot I prevailed.
To celebrate, I decided to open a bottle of 2003 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port. I know it's too young but it's so good now, why delay enjoyment?
On the first day, I suppose it was somewhat of a gluggy fruit drink. It showed nice balance with smooth soft tannins and loads of unctuous fruit though somewhat simple.
This note was taken on the third day of being open:
Very dark red / purple. Nearly opaque even when held to the light. The nose is soft and fruity with some spices and chocolate in the background. The palate is full bodied, nicely sweet with a smooth texture on the front and firm tannin and noticeable acidity on the back. Some interesting complexities starting to peek out. This shows excellent balance right now with seamlessly integrated alcohol and a long persistent finish. 94
I am impressed by how well the alcohol has integrated so soon and the level of acidity. I do not usually notice much acidity in Vintage Port. In this one, it is clearly there.
A very good effort. Excellent QPR. Lots of room for improvement but it's so good now, why wait?
