2000 Cockburn LBV Port

Cockburn Late Bottled Vintage – 2000
Bottled in 2006. Filtered. Goofy T-Cap with what seems to be 5 oz of plastic above the short cork. Makes the wine looks cheap right from the get go.
I saw this Port in a store that I don’t often go to, and being that I was in a rush, could not remember whether I had liked this the last time I tried it. Thought I had. Turns out that this was the TN from the last time I tried it. Not a good start.
Translucent, light ruby colour. Harsh, astringent nose with grapes, cherries and some raspberries. Thin, almost no body, watery. Sweet grapes and young, red cherries dominate the thin palate. Dry finish, some acidity and a touch of alcohol. A lot more dry than I remember. I am going to allow this to decant fully for at least a day and give it much more decanter time than previously. Hopefully this will allow a better Port to come through.
After 1 full day, at room temperature, the Port is actually not too bad. Fruity, with raspberries and less cherries. Disappointingly thin – I see from the last set of notes I took on this one that I thought the same thing then. However, the strong spirit I experienced last time around is not around now. Probably because I missed the “evil middle hours” when the alcohol would have been prevalent (based on last TN).
