Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim 1996 VP
Tasted 6 September 2014

D +10 (10 hour Decant)
Colour: Black centre, turning to bright dark red at the rim.

Nose: hint of laurel, black fruit (black berry, blue berry), some vanilla, dark chocolate, and a whif of tangerine peel/zest.

Taste: nice and rounded, tannins still noticeable but already quite integrated, well balanced with the fruit (red fruit like raspberry and cherry, and plum). Also a little bit of heat on the palate. Further some laurel again and a bit of (pepper)mint, extremely concentrated, lots of red fruit, very powerfull. Balance of sweet flavour and acidity was also well in order.

Finish: a bit of heat remains, but not so much that it’s unpleasant. The finish lingers on fora bout 45 seconds.

Conclusion: Not spectacular, but very enjoyable indeed. I wouldn’t mind having more of these (only one left), but I won’t be looking out for it specially. Good thing is that it is totally drinkable now (with a nice long decant time), and there is no rush needed in finishing these off.

D +30
All flavours / tannins somewhat more developed, but still quite ok. Finish was a little shorter at this time.
