1985 Warre Vintage Port

Tasted blind. Fairly dark and thick, but not quite as red as the previous wine tasted (1985 Fonseca). There is not a lot of aroma, but some slight warmth, and some graininess. It is still grainy in the mouth, with a lot of tannin, really a lot of tannin to the point of being slightly astringent. As a result, I didn’t enjoy this wine as much I might in the future when those tannins settle down. 92 points.
As a follow-up, I’m not exactly sure what I meant when I wrote “grainy” on this. I don’t think I was referring to cereal grains, but to a grainy texture, perhaps like a fig fruit paste or vegemite.
Also, I must say this was the biggest most powerful Warres VP I can recall. I usually think of the Warres house style of being a subtle, finesse wine. Not this bottle.
