Saw Brad had opened the 1983 version so I decided to give this a go, as I had picked some up to use as a house Port if it wasn't up to par for long term cellaring. Decanted about 6 hours. The color is still holding well. A soft red plum nose with wild flowers. The palate was in a transitional phase as it possessed both young red stone fruit and menthol and licorice. Mostly resolved tannins and some light acidity that put it more on the sweet side. Pleasant, but lacking in complexity and the required aforementioned items needed to make it a top tier VP. This will make a very nice "daily house VP" for me and as my bottles will be gone within the next year. That said this probably has another 8-10 years in this sweet-spot, but I don't see it getting any better with time.
