2009 Quarles Harris Late Bottled Vintage Port
Posted: Fri Dec 25, 2015 6:04 pm
A bottle that Dad picked up at the local Trader Joe's to have on hand for Christmas. A welcome step up from their usual Fonseca bin 27.
2009 Quarles Harris LBV
12/24/2015, Lee's Summit
unknown bottling date
Color: dark red, opaque center
Nose: faintly spirity, blueberry and blackberry. Some paper or cardboard (dry). Possibly some mild red currant.
Palate: tartly fruity but with acidity to make it luscious. On the dryer end of the spectrum. Good tannins. Blackberries and marionberries, plus plenty of rich grape. A bit hot and a little bit spicy.
Finish: good length. Slightly bitter. Good tannic grip. Resolves to grape stem after 30-45 seconds.
Score: 91 points. Unclear whether or not this was filtered, but it gives the impression that it should be aged for ~10 years to mellow it out a bit. The first bottle is now gone so a second has been opened.
