1985 Dow Vintage Port

My first 1985 Dow's was flawed and I needed to know if I had made a poor purchase of the other 7 bottles. 4 hour decant before first pour, enjoyed over 2 days. This Dow was marvelous with a big fruit on the nose along with some spirit. Mostly opaque and dark garnet. The front end had everything going on and reminded me of the '70 Dow I recently had, just younger. Refined and elegant, with almost a rosemary herbal quality and a long finish that brought forth the familiar tea leaf. Great stuff 94pts

Glad to hear the first one was just random bottle variation!

I had this during the harvest this year and it is a really beautiful Port and always has been, yes, like a younger version of 1970 Dow's is very accurately put. I find the 1985 still needs another decade of age to show its best, as well-stored bottles are showing such crazy youthfulness at this point in time.

To me the '85 Dow tastes drier than the '70, but I have never had them side by side.

Actually a Dow vertical would be a good idea in Boston...
