2008 Fonseca LBV Port

Post by John M. »

Unfiltered. Deep purple with a magenta rim. Brambles with a touch of mint in a generous nose. Taste is simple grape with a bing cherry finish. Tannic dry finish. Just not complex and better options for the price.

Interesting as I have yet to find a recent LBV that I like as much. European Wine Resource has it for $20 so it also resides at the lower end of price. It is the standard I use to compare other LBV and the recent Taylor 2009 (Costco ~$17 [shok.gif] ) I had just seemed so sweet and simple in comparison I let others drink it. Just goes to show that we each have differing tastes. One thing, I was talking to a gentleman at the IVDP tasting last week and we agreed that LBV's are offering the best ports for the price right now.

For me I have never been impressed with either Fonseca or Taylor's LBVs so the Taylor showing was surprising to me.
