Purchased two bottles from a Danish merchant four years ago and it was time to try one of them. Decanted 5.5 hrs. The first 4 hrs the aroma was not nice and I wondered whether it was a bad bottle. However, after 4 hrs it opened up and became pleasant. Dark red colour with a touch of brown. Sweetish aroma of berries, figs and oak. Full body. Powerful (lasted to the end) and to some degree elegant. A lot of fresh and nice fruit, pleasant long-lasting tannins well balanced with minerals. Medium length aftertaste. Well structured vintage port. 90 pts.

Good to know thanks. Picked up another for only $30 recently. How long do you think it will last until it peaks?

Towards the end of drinking this port on Friday evening we dicussed what to do with the last bottle and we agreed to drink it during this summer.
In view of the strange aroma that stayed on for abt 4 hrs before changing/opening up, we feel it a bit unsure of how long this port will be good.
Could be that the fact that this 4 hrs opening up period is there is actually indicating it will last long, but we don't know.
Maybe you and/or others have experience with such type of bottles having a significant change in quality after 4hrs (or similar) in the decanter?.
Unless we hear otherwise we will enjoy it within the next months.

Thanks. This bottle is now on the drink sometime soon list here at the house, so I have a feeling it won't make it to the end of summer.
