Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage – 2000
Filtered.
A rich red colour. Violets and berries on the nose, with some cherry contributing to the complexity of this. While it is a good, solid filtered LBV, it is not one I would rush out to buy. I I have had better exampled of filtered LBV from the year 2000. The Fonseca would fit into the upper-middle of all these.
With some heat on the finish, it detracted from the overall enjoyment. I found the nose a bit dull to begin with, but after transferring the contents from a larger red wine glass into a smaller Port glass, I found the nose opened up magnificently resulting in much more concentrated aromas, as listed above.
