TN: J.M.S. Moscatel de Setúbal Superior 1998

A 375 ml bottle purchased at GN a few days ago.

Pours cloudy light orange-brown. WOW! What big aromas expanding on the usual themes for Moscatel. There is honey, but honey in the old wooden honeycomb frame that has rotted a bit. There is a little cinnamon and fenugreek. There is paraffin and furniture wax, with a little bit of furniture polish solvent. There are marigolds, some a little past their prime, others dried. Swirling gives more solvent, but also releases some pear and apple butter. Very very sweet, but with some sharp cutting acid too. Long finish. Not as concentrated as a Tokaji Ezzencia, but up there. 94 points. If this didn't have that Pledge aroma, it would have scored 96 or more.

On day two, the solvent/polish aroma was more subdued, but the wine didn't seem as lively as on day one either, so I'm going to leave the score as is.
