Happy anniversary... to me

My wife and I celebrated six years of wedded bliss today and what better a way than with a fancy six-course dinner (okay, it was five course, but they brought bread/baguettes to our table before the soup and salads, so roll with me people and let's pretend it was a sixth course! ), six assortments of six different types of flowers (three of which were the flowers used in her wedding bouquet, preserved and hanging on the wall of our bedroom surrounding one of the few very good pictures of our wedding) and six different 'gifts' (five being small tokens of my love, the 6th being the real spectacular one) and to finish it off, a bottle of a six year old LBV - Taylor 2001, from the year of our wedding.
While the dinner and festivities afterward (we went to the casino where she promptly lost six of my $20 bills ) were good, sitting around drinking the Port and chatting on the sofa in front of a fire was the best part of the evening. The kids had been put to bed, the fire was up, the lights were down and the tv was off. Just the two of us, me sipping my Taylor LBV, her sipping the dealcoholized sparkling wine I found in the grocery store (as she is pregnant with our 3rd child, she won't be enjoying any wine or Port for a while to come.)
It was a perfectly lovely evening. Nothing exciting, everything special. Sitting there just talking about six+ great years reminds me why I married her... she's a great woman who puts up with my never-ending crap, and we love each other to death for who we are... not who we want to be. We can sit and chat about everything and nothing all at the same time, and not have a reason in the world to have a tv on or a book in hand or any other distractions.
And the Taylor 2001 LBV reminds me what a great daily-sipper this is. Strong cherry notes, some standard Taylor grip, enough tannins to satisfy, balanced acidity and enough alcohol on the mid- and back-palates to keep me coming back to that bottle. Did I drink six glasses of Port tonight? Very likely!
Here's to six more (maybe more like sixty!!)
