2007 Quinta da Romaniera VP

Post by Eric Menchen »

Very dark red with just a hint of brown at the edge. The aroma is buttery with some chemical character, spirited, leathery, and a bit like varnish. Then the aroma suggests some sweet candy. The flavor is really sweet, juicy, and fruity, with red plum, dark berry, and butter as well. Tastes of mulberry cobbler, with blueberry and blackberry too. The tannins and acid are both on the lighter side, so I wonder how long this will hold up in the cellar. It is good now, and probably good in 10 years, but I don't think this is one to keep for 30 more. With some swirling, the aroma reveals a little dried leaf, and there are more tannins too. Later there were aromas of wintergreen, and the tannins and body increased a bit. 92-93 points. (17 Nov 23)
