Hi Everyone,
I recently opened a half bottle of Taylor's 2007 vintage port on Christmas Eve and was disappointed to find that it expressed excessive volatile acidity and was all around a bit tired. In short, it wasn't like anything I have tasted from Taylor's so I am hoping that it was simply due to the bottle format / unlucky bottle variation. Has anyone more experience with this particular vintage?
(I would mainly like to know because I have purchased several full bottles and would like to think that they could be nice to open in 5-10 years).
Thanks!
Stephen

Re: Taylor's 2007 Vintage Port
A half bottle from 2007 might still be in its "teenage funk" that seems to affect most VP. In more modern vintages like 2007 (vintages from 1994 onwards) the effect is generally less than it used to be, but it does still seem to happen.
Normally, a full bottle would come out of this funk at some point between 15 and 25 years of age. I would expect a half bottle to resolve sooner, but Taylor is generally a bigger and more powerful Port and those generally take longer to stabilize.
That said, VA is not an effect of this "teenage funk" and so that was probably (hopefully) just an off bottle.
