1963 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by John M. »

This bottle is a leaker with mid-shoulder fill despite a wax cap. Saturated cork and has those little "crystals" so often found on the surface of such corks. Instant blossom aromas emerged. Upon decanting took a small sip and there is bottle stink. At 1.5 hours was coming around. At four hours it was perfect. Nose of violets and dry grass. Color went towards brownish red; clear. Distinct white cherry flavor that finished with a bit of a bite. Esteva/grass was in the profile as well. I had some after one and two days and it held up well, but became even smoother on the finish---but at a cost as it was less interesting. But always very enjoyable.
