I was thinking the same thing. Its an ok Port, but nothing to write home about.

It is always interesting to know how they proceed to make such a list. Often the wine companies have to submit sample and pay a fee to be included in a tasting contest. So in the end, the wine that wins is not necessary excellent but the least worst.

I agree on the 86, a good Colheita but Noval can do better!

These wines were tasted by the professionals of the Revista Vinhos during 2007. And in that perspective for example Noval won the Excellence Award with the Colheita 1986 as opposing to Vesúvio 2004, Vargellas 2004, Krohn 1982, etc.

Understood, but even the 1994 Quinta do Noval LBV is better than the 1986 Colheita. Like others, I think the '86 is good but not special and can think of a half dozen other Colheitas by Noval which are significantly better, imo.

I am very pleased to see Quinta do Portal, David Guimaraens, The Douro Boys and Peter Symington all named as winners for their respective categories.

Had the Noval '86 Colheita on a couple of occasions last year .
Young and good at best .
Just finished the '71 Noval Colheita , bottled in '98 so hint of caramel and not in the same league . . .

The Dorado Alvarinho 05 that I got here in Brazil
from the importer ,is quite a shame ... Tired, fat, to forget.
The Auratus 06 (simpler brand) was on the ther hand,quite
fine (what makes me believe that it shold not had been
tranportantion neither storage problems)
