This is a Moscatel desert wine and what a wine it is! The color is a very light tan that fades to a distinctive green edge. The nose was just wonderful with carmel and orange blossoms...ohh, lots of orange blossoms! The palate is very thick with maple syrup, great acidity, oranges, some smoke, and a touch of paprika. The finish never seems to stop and has some citrus fruit that shows on the back palate, which rounds out one heck of a wine. 93+ points

I have gone through a bunch of the Setubal wines from this producer and met the winemaker up in Vancouver. He helped me when I had come across an amazingly crazy bottle of "round trip" that they produced late in the 19th century. Extraordinarily rare and fortunate. The bottle Andy enjoyed is one that I absolutely have loved for nearly 15 years. Sadly, it is no longer produced and I only have a pair of these left after about 15 or 16 over the years. I also bought heavy into the 1962 JM d Fonseca. Slightly over a decade ago, my friend Bartholomew Broadbent opened a vertical of this for my 40th birthday for the two of us and two gals we shared them with in Aspen. The youngest bottle was from my birth year and we had every bottle produced back to his father's birth year. It was a crazy weekend. Anyway, the 20 y.o. Roxo is a stud. I have always been in the 93-94 point range with it and share the last of mine sparingly. Last year, I had one with my brother and realized how few were left in the cellar. Sad to see them go as they certainly have no trouble hanging for the long term. Even though it is not a vintage dated Moscatel, the 20 year old is always something special. Thanks Andy for sharing your TNs on this one!!!

Roy,

Those are really top class wines. Never drunk the Torna Viagem but i will someday.
Anyway you should try the old "Bastardinho de Azeitão" from JMF. It's made from the grape Bastardo and it is a huge wine.

Best,
