For The Love Of Port

Seems in mid April TFP (The Fladgate Parnership) has sold Delaforce to Real Compania Velha (RCV). No land was sold, it was just the brand name. Seems TFP will still make the ports for RCV, but RCV will own the name Delaforce. More info when I find out.

RCV are really playing hard this year in the Douro! If Taylor's are making the Port for them from the classic Delaforce vineyards, it could only mean an increase in quality for RCV port overall. I hope this will be the case, it would be a shame to loose the style of Delaforce Port.

Whoa!!! This is an interesting turn of events....I wonder if this move might have some implications for Croft.....

I read on the site where this announcement was posted that Taylor Fladgate have stated that the port industry has "too many brands". I think this is a very worrying statement from a large shipper group. The port industry thrives on having a wide range of large, small, good and not so good producers. Long may that continue.

All kidding aside . . . since Baldrick obviously enjoys Port , this move will have no affect on the north american Port market , so why should I be concerned ?

Because you are a Port lover and you care about the future of the industry whether or not this particular issue impacts you personally.

I hope they manage to maintain the quality, as I think the Delaforce 10YO tawny is rather good. Taylor's tawnies, by comparison, seem a bit dull (if nice).

The Delaforce 10 year is straight up vanilla-sweet tasting. I like it as well, but find if a little over-the-top with some flavors.

I'd bet the usual vintages will come to mind; 70, 63, 45, 27... I've only had a couple of vintages of Delaforce, so I am in no position to comment on their best vintage...
