As I mentioned in the Port Basics, we had this with Stilton Cheese and the pairing was incredible.
This vintage port is awesome. Smooth, fruity, well balanced, always a tasty, even keel of a sip. What a bargain too for such a vintage, you can get these for less than $50 most places. A definite bang for your buck. It's highly rated and I can see why.
We decanted it at first, didn't notice much sediment at all. Then, we poured and sipped. All heads nodded in approval. Fruit comes at you evenly. Smooth all the way towards the end when I know I tried to top off. We polished off the bottle swearing we'd get more.
Highly recommend with Cheese.

Re: Smith Woodhouse Madelena 1995 (thumbs up!)
I am total agreement. This Port gets way too little mention and is a really well made VP. Thanks for the fine tasting note Mark!

Re: 1995 Smith Woodhouse Madelena Vintage Port
Mark's tasting note above is really spot on. I opened the 1995 Smith Woodhouse Madalena yesterday. Decanted through cheesecloth and virtually no sediment. Dark strapping color in the decanter with aromas of blackberry liquer. At +12 hrs had a glass and this is very fine and texturally complete, with hints of blackberry, baker's chocolate, and briar on the nose. An impressive port for the money. 92 pts
