I am usually a fan of the underrated 1980 vintage as I have found most to be very enjoyable. I had high hopes for the 1980 Fonseca but it was overall pretty average and not the best of the vintage. The initial scents were heavy with alcohol, concord grape juice and a strange bit of dishwasher detergent. Thankfully this was not evident on the palate, the primary tastes were of golden raisins and prunes. The 1980 was the palest in color in our Fonseca lineup (1970-1983). It was a decent Port but probably would have benefited with a longer decanting time.
