This was bottled in 2006. The color is a dark, purplish burgundy at the core with a bright raspberry-red rim. About two hours after decanting the nose was quite primary - grape jelly and blackberry - but when the second glass was poured after about 8 hours of decanting, it took on a lovely perfumed character with maraschino cherry and autumn leaves lifting the darker notes. By the second day the nose was a bit more nuanced again, this time reminding me more of blueberry pie and violets, though the other notes were still there too. The palate delivers smooth black currant and raspberry fruit - good concentration and moderate sweetness - then transitions to an unusually dry midpalate of earthy flavors. The tannins are evident but not huge, and the finish is clean and of medium length. Being a traditional style LBV, it certainly couldn't hurt to give this a couple of years to get even better, but it's drinking very pleasantly at the moment. Nice stuff.

Tasted 5/08

2001 Quinta Do Infantado Porto Late Bottled Vintage

$3.99, .375 bottle size

yeah, it was one of my local "buy 12 get the 13th for blah blah blah" buys, but i am not complaining!

30 minutes decanted and so i've i've observed what the op observed. a very deep purple color that i don't think is found naturally in nature... :?

nice flavours of chocolate and cherries with some raspberry kirsch/grape jelly. VERY sweet. lovely wine and the price is right!

Nice price Tbird!

You gotta love finding any bottling at a price like that, even for a 375. Glad to see that Infantado has penetrated the NY market, at least in Brooklyn. Very cool. See if they can score a 1992 Infantado VP for you!

I don't quite follow you on this part :help: You think something else was added to give it some darker color, or...???
