The Kite Runner

It is too easy to give too much away and ruin this film with “spoilers.” This is the type of movie you are best watching without having preconceived notions or having reviews that get into details about what takes place. That said, I am used to writing film reviews that won’t diminish your viewing experience, so please read on as this is brief.

The Kite Runner is not a film to allow your children to watch as there is a modicum of graphic violence that is unsuitable for minors. It is hard to say that you enjoy a movie like this, but rather the sensorial experience is well worth the time and effort. Even those who have already read the book, would benefit from sitting through to the conclusion.

In a nutshell, the action takes place in and around Kabul, Afghanistan and San Francisco, California following the life of a boy who grows up fast and escapes to America to live a very different lifestyle. This bittersweet tale is touching and piercing and provides some perspective of what life is really like in that desert-mountainous country right up and through the year 2000. It is the story of survival of the human spirit in a captivating manner and is not easy to watch, yet it rewards you for going the distance.

Rent it!
