We are having a Ferreira Vertical in Boston on July 12th. So far, there's four people and four vintages.
Vintages reserved so far:
1950
1978
1980
1985
(1963 & 1970 may be included also)
Let me know if you have any Ferreira vintages 20+ years old and can make it to Boston on the 12th.

Anything available in Boston, I'd have to double check but I think I could make it.

All of these were bought in Boston. I think there's 94's available, but a little too young for me. We might be able to get '70 and '63 in time. An Ferreira older tawny would be a welcome mix like 20+ years to contrast.

Dang, I wish I could make it! I even have a '70 Ferreira.

As I was telling Sean on the phone today, I've had more vintages of Ferreira (besides doing 2 complete verticals) than any other Port shipper. The oldest is 1815 which I believe was a vintage and not a Colheita, but otherwise a much younger 1830.

Plenty from there to 1900 too. This is a house that never has made big bruisers but even the elegant, feminine style of VP made by Ferreira is remarkably able to age beautifully. I've had the 1945-1994s a bunch. 1950 is solid not great, but lively still and tasty too. The '78 has never been my favorite, but every producer needs a weak spot. :help:
Moses and Sean are offering a great opportunity to enjoy a very solid house's Ports and Frederick or anyone else that can make their way to take part in the fun ... DO SO!

We should have the impossible to find 1963 and wonderful 1970 Ferreira's as well as 1983. If someone wants to join us with a heavy-hitter vintage we have the 1908 vintage available as well.
The line up is now:
1950
1963
1970
1978
1980
1983
1985

Ah crap! I did not notice that last post and was referring to the first one on the page. I was about to announce that me and Luc would come with 83 and 77 as I've placed my order, but now I've just notived that you already got the 83... Is it a problem? or we can compare bottle variation?
Anyway, we are in!

No worries, I think the '83 was a bonus we were throwing in if indeed we have it from a mixed lot. It could be a mistake on my part as well...
The line up is now:
1950
1963
1970
1977
1978
1980
1983
1985
1955 and 1954 are available, as is 1945 if we all want to pony up more money. So far, 8 people are confirmed. I like to keep it at a bottle a person minimum.

I am excited to read TNs (in the

PORT TN area please) and not in this thread.
So many fine wines and it must have been great for Moses and Sean to get to meet with Frederick and also Luc. I know that some of the wines like the 1950 and even the 1963 will be the oldest bottles of Vintage Port that either of our Canadian friends has ever consumed. So I am very much looking forward to everyone's TNs and opinions.
Hearing how Luc and Fred loved having VPs that were nearly 60 years old is going to be great!
So please share your experiences! I am also hoping to read if Fred brought some of his excellent stash of Douro wines along for the dinners?

I'll try to take some time to put my TN in the end of the week. Maybe some pictures later tonight.
I did not bring a Douro wine but a very rare wine from Henri Bonneau, which was excellent, the best bottle of Les Rouliers I was able to sample this year.
The Ferreira were good, but the extra ports/madeira were even better. 75 was the surprise of the night as it was looking young and promising for the next 5-10 years. I'll try to put more details later, I promise!
Sean and Moses where fantastic host, I'm looking forward to see them in Montreal so I can surprise them a little bit, if it is possible.

The preamble may've been even more interesting than the Ferreira Vertical.
1950 Grahams - Incredible as one would imagine.
1963 Croft - One of the most prestine examples I have tried.
1963 Fonseca - Incredible as expected.
All three of the wines can air for longer than we did (3 hours or so), but are all fantastic 5 stars, 90+ ports.
