1978 Ferreira Vintage Port

Post by SEAN C. »

The '78 Ferreira had a very nice dark blood red color mixed with dark grape. The nose however was not so pleasant, it had a strange smell of yeast and beer. The '78 tasted flat, with notes of cooked prune and stewed tomato. I don't think this was due to heat from improper storage but rather a flaw in the creation or bottling process.

I had this Port from Magnum in 2004 and 2006, and this perticular bottle was clearly a bad one in my opinion. While the Ferreira 78 has never been a great VP, it was surprisingly young, but so unbalanced that each time I was crossing my finger in hope(because its my birth year) that one day this would come united to provide an interesting drink 8--)
