I don't feel comfortable checking back in the forum just to see if there are any new posts in threads in which I have participated and am watching closely. If there was some way I could be notified of a new posting, if the forum is thus configured, I would very much appreciate that. Thanks.

Click on "subscribe topic" at the bottom of the screen. That'll get you set up for an email every time someone posts in the thread!

Thank you Glenn. On my screen, that box is already checked, oddly enough. Just now though, I clicked on the option screen below for notification when a reply is posted. If that doesn't work, I am polishing off the rest of this bottle of madeira (approx. 20 oz.) in 15 minutes. well maybe not.

Actually, that check box is just the icon. (I agree that it is quite confusing.) Now that you've clicked the link, it should have changed to read Unsubscribe Topic.

It most certainly did!

That works on a topic-by-topic basis but what would likey be better is if you set your global preferences. To do so, go to User Control Panel (somewhere up under the top banner) and look for the following tabs/options:
Board Preferences > Edit Posting Defaults > Notify me upon replies by default: Yes/No

Thanks Todd. He is right, you can set them for a specific thread or all the ones that you post in.

for some reason i can't find the user control panel to make these changes. any suggestions?

The USER CONTROL PANEL can be found at the very top of the page. It is in the first panel of light blue color and directly below the words: BOARD INDEX and you should see a white image similar to a chess pawn next to it.
