Medium garnet color with a rusty rim. Some initial "tutti-frutti" on the nose which recedes with airtime. Complex nose has hints of raisin box, red plums, and toffee. On the palate this is fairly sweet, nearly cloying, with nutty plum flavors and a long mouthcoating finish. I want to think this was great, but there was a lack of layering and depth which notches it down a point or two. I would have to say that the nose was the best part about this wine. 89 pts

The first time I ever bought and decanted a VP (last spring), I had this one. I remember the best description of the nose would be smoky, which certainly was pretty cool. I didn't write down any notes, and it's been awhile since I had it, so that's all I really remember at this point. Oh, the cork had not held up so well, also. I did get it at a wineshop in Chicago, and it was discounted down to $30 or so. Maybe they still have one left...
