Super Bowl XLIII

The pundits are taking the Steelers over the Cardinals by 7 points, and I am inclined to agree with them, although I would not be dissapointed in the least if the Cardinals won. In spite of being a hardcore fan of the Patriots, I am concerned about allegations the team used unfair videotaping to defeat Warner and the Rams in an earlier Super Bowl, so it would be good to see Warner get another ring in what I feel will be his last championship game. Somehow I feel this has the potential to be a rout like the Tampa Bay win not long ago, or the back to back wins by Dallas over Buffalo.

The half-time show with The Boss should be great fun.

So the Steelers have prevailed, 27-23, in what I feel was a pretty mediocre game. I stayed up until 5:20am to watch Rafael Nadal defeat Roger Federer in the final of the Australian Open, and apart from Federer's letdown in the final set, that event was in my view a superior athletic contest in every respect, save for the absence of entertainment.

We actually paused briefly between dinner and the final two flights tonight, so a couple of us ran upstairs to the bar to watch the last 4-5 minutes of the game. Sounds like that might have been the only interesting part.

Trivial note from someone that doesn't watch much football: A regular season NBA game has had more worldwide viewers than the Super Bowl. The game featured Yao Ming with the Houston Rockets and Yi Jianlian, then with the Milwaukee Bucks, and was watched by more than 200 million people in China, plus a few others around the world.
