2009 Port Gala
Friday, January 30th, Colheita tasting
Flight 1 - 1934 Niepoort, 1937 Kopke, 1941 Moreira
1937 Kopke Colheita
bottled in 2000
Dark and rich looking in the glass, with a yellowing meniscus. Easily the darkest of the flight, you could call this one a Madeira and no one would question you based on sight.
Lightly alcoholic nose, but in a "hey this has some zing to it" way and not in a "ew, who spilled the rubbing alcohol" way. Slightly musty as well, but that blew off quickly.
Faintly plastic taste that made me think of polyurethane skateboard wheels from my youth. The sweetest Colheita of the flight, with pleasant notes of vanilla and almond paste. A very faint smokey note in the back of the mouth also.

Re: 1937 Kopke Colheita
Makes me hungry, I am thinking of going out and munching some skateboard wheels, to satisfy that craving!
I usually like the 1937 Kopke .. A LOT ... there is a reason it makes up 50% of my blend.
If we all loved the same Ports, this would be one boring place.

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
