2009 Port Gala
Friday, January 30th, Colheita tasting
Flight 2 - 1953 Royal Oporto, 1955 Burmester, 1957 Porto Rocha, 1963 Niepoort

1957 Porto Rocha Colheita
bottled in 2006

A very nice tawny color in the glass that fades through a tan/orange into yellow near the rim.

There's a very slight vinegar note on the nose, but it's not bad. Something like dijon mustard.

Very silky in the mouth, with what can only be described as hints of morel mushrooms and toasted corn. Lush but mild dried apricots and plums form the foundation.

Having had this many times, it has never disappointed. A very nice Colheita for sure.

Like 1937 ... 1952/1957 both were prolific years for outstanding Colheitas in the decade of the 1950s. There are some stunners from many of the well known names. I love comparing 1952 and 1957. Often times I prefer the '52s, but there are certainly a couple that I swing towards the '57.
