20 Year Old Tawny Port by Cockburn's

Post by Glenn E. »

Cockburn's 20-yr Old Tawny Port
tasted 2/27/2009 at a casual tasting in NYC

Light ruby rather than tawny in the glass, but the dusty rose tablecloth may be interfering again.

A typical, but somewhat weak, nose for a 20-yr old Tawny. It is stronger and more concentrated than the Costa de Baixo, but still weaker than I expect from a good 20-yr old. Again I note that my palate may be affected by the Calvados, though as this is the 3rd glass into the tasting I should think it would have recovered by this point.

Somewhat more full and rounded in the mouth than the Costa de Baixo, but like the nose still weaker than expected. The dried apricots are at least discernable in the Cockburn's.

Oddly, best pairing of the night with the steaks.
