1970 Taylor’s Vintage Port

Drank on 09 October 2008 at The Bell offline. No bricking on this youthful looking Port. A few sniffs showed delicate red fruits, marzipan and fine herbs. The palate was serious stuff, with power, restrained sweetness and a long length. There was a hint of alcohol on the finish, but this would probably have integrated with a touch ore decanting time. This complete Port was truly excellent and I was surprised when it was revealed. The 1970 Taylors is one of my favourite Ports of all time, but none of the bottles I have drunk over the past ten years have ever showed this young. Again, Derek assured me of its impeccable provenance and this explained why, so thank you! 94/100.

You are too generous with some of your scores. :D

However, 1970 Taylor from solidly stored bottles ... come on. [yahoo.gif]

I don't normally take people to task on scores... unless it is you or Andy [friends.gif] (both of whom I have consumed copious quantities of Port with over the years!) and we know one another's Port palates and scoring. [foilhat.gif]

Roy, I agree with you on my scoring, which I term "realistic". ;)

The 1970 Taylors was the first Port that made me jump up and say "WOW"! That was many moons ago. This is why I have to think carefully about a score for this Port.

No question about the bottle variation on the Taylor '70 being significant. Especially with all those different UK bottlings! [yahoo.gif]

Us Brits had to ensure that someone did a proper job of bottling those lovely Ports!
