Yes it is good and gives a good overview of the scene here in LA where Rudy lived.

Yeah Funny to see that those big bucks label drinkers believe anyone who makes sense when they talk about wine.

I sprung the $0.99 to rent it. Now I just need to remember to watch it in the next 30 days. Thanks for the feedback.
Update: As a wine person, I thought Sour Grapes was good and enjoyable. And while a documentary, I thought there was a bit of interesting cinematography.

Two fine films that I've seen in the past few days: BEIRUT ... outstanding, and The Death of Stalin ... very solid.

Dutch. Haven't seen this movie in about 20 some years and forgot about it until tonight when it showed up on cable. Ed O'Neil is awesome. Just a good old fashion non thinking funny movie.

Lena Olin, Juliette Binoche and Daniel Day Lewis - An Unbearable Lightness of Being. From 1988 but most have likely never seen this.

Currently playing, the latest installment of Mission Impossible was actually quite good. [cheers.gif]

Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table. Really good movie about an old family restaurant in New Orleans, some family drama, a hurricane, a stubborn well respected woman and a whole bunch of things between. Really liked this one.

Anyone into the series "Fauda"? My favorite new show by a country mile. Each episode will have you glued to your seat!

I've been enjoying Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown on Netflix for the last two months. I'm not a big binge watcher and don't seem to have that much time, so I'm not sure if I'll get to watch them all before Netflix pulls them at the end of the month. Some episodes are better than others, but I find most both informative and entertaining.

FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

A very well done documentary about the now infamous concert in the Bahamas that never happened. Also a great example of when something seems too good to be true it usually is. So many red flags along the way that people involved missed or just turned a blind eye to.

They Shall Not Grow Old - (currently in theaters) It is a documentary about WW1, using restored images and footage told by the soldiers who were there. Odd in some ways, (very little is explained about the dates or who/what is going on, or where) but the details are incredibly moving and riveting. This is 100 year old footage and a stellar job done in piecing things back together and it is like a non-stop montage, with battle stories that need to be heard to be believed.

After the credits are done rolling, there is an additional half hour which is fantastic, depicting the excruciating pains taken to make this movie. It is nearly better than the movie itself. I can imagine how many people forgot to stay for that segment and there should've been a reminder when the film ended.

That was a great one. I remember the promotion on the party when it was "in the works".

Glad to see a nod to FYRE!, that was a fascinating documentary. I know many critics felt that Green Book had shortcomings-for not actually having much to do with the historical "green book" and for underplaying the severity of racism in 1960s America. However, as a "buddy film" with substance and humor, Green Book excels. The humor also hit a new level of maturity for Peter Farrelly. I liked a few of the Farrelly brothers past films (Hall Pass, Kingpin) but thought the humor in his most famous comedies (Dumb and dumber, Something About Mary, Me Myself and Irene, Kingpin) catering too much to the lowest common denominator of human intelligence. Green Book is in a new league for Farrelly.

Many critics also lambasted the Oscars for ignoring many of 2018s best films in favor of films that were more widely distributed and higher grossing. What films did you all like that were ignored by the Oscar nominations this year?

Two films I watched recently that struck me as very well done are Leave No Trace and Eighth Grade. Coincidentally, both films are subtle stories about a young woman struggling with emotional growing pains but each film feels remarkably different. Both films are also available for free on Amazon Prime/Netflix.

Also, if you're a fan of the crime/suspense film genre, Widows is entertaining though probably not Oscar worthy.

If you have Netflix, the biopic about Motley Crue called The Dirt is awesome. They cover a lot of ground in less than 2 hours so don't expect every detail to be covered. However, it's a really good insight and overview of the band from start to finish.
