1986 Smith Woodhouse Colheita Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

This is a brief TN as I had this single pour at a local restaurant and didn't take notes. I have no idea when the bottle was opened, but it wasn't opened for me. Bottled in 2006, so 20 years in cask.

Appearance was amber colored with a surprising amount of red, and clear. At first hot on the nose, with some nice aged wood too. Warm in the mouth too, and hot in the medium-long finish. I was a little worried about this, but the heat faded as I drank more, and it really grew on me. The wood really came out, along with light flavors of dried fruits and some stickiness. Tannins and acid were both light, but very nice.

Given my pleasant tasting experience, I just did some price checking and there are a lot of retailers in the U.S. selling this in the $35-45 range. I'd buy a full bottle at that price.
