2000 Kopke LBV

Post by Kurt Wieneke »

There is some definite "nut wood" (think pecan shell) aromas on the nose along with black plums. On the plus side, this is pretty well integrated on the palate and has a nice nutty aftertaste. On the minus side, it has some stark acidity at midpalate, and a touch of bitters. Maybe the grapes did not get as ripe at Kopke in 2000. Also, it seems like this might have sat in a barrel that was previously used to store some older tawny or colheita and that imparted some more-than-normal nuttiness to this LBV. 86 pts
